Redeveloped Niola Enters New Era

After 16 months of redevelopment, we officially opened our new look $11million Niola Centre with a street festival and unveiling by Parkes Shire Mayor, Cr Ken Keith in late November 2017, 60 years after the centre was first opened.

The day-long street festival invited the community to share in the celebrations, complete with children’s entertainment and rides, live music, street and gourmet food stalls, an antique car display, a live broadcast from local radio station and tours of the new centre.

The redevelopment increased Niola’s capacity to care for residents living with dementia with a specialised unit versed in the most cutting-edge strategies in dementia care.

The redevelopment also included an additional seven beds, taking Niola to a 59 bed centre; all four bed wards replaced with new double and single rooms, each with ensuites; a completely new commercial kitchen, providing freshly-cooked meals, alongside of overall upgrades to the Centre’s technology care systems.

Residents now have access to a larger chapel space, dedicated hair salon, a spa room featuring a state-of-the-art hydro therapy spa bath; and new physio and consulting rooms for healthcare professionals.

BaptistCare purchased Niola, formerly a bush hospital, as a 12-bed home in 1957.
