Silver Jubilee for Dorothy Henderson Lodge

Our residents and staff at BaptistCare Dorothy Henderson Lodge were host to a crowd of well-wishers in March 2018, as they celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the trusted aged care centre in Sydney’s Macquarie Park.

The event was attended by current and former BaptistCare staff, with special guests Dr Graham Henderson, Mr Kenneth Henderson and Mrs Anne Low, the children of the late Mrs Dorothy Henderson, after whom the centre was named.

Guests were treated to recollections from former staff as well as long-time resident Mr Alf Bourne, who spoke of the welcoming home that Dorothy Henderson Lodge has been for him and his fellow residents.

When it opened in 1993, Dorothy Henderson Lodge was the eleventh ‘hostel for the aged’ established by Baptist Community Services (BCS), as we were then known. The 74 place hostel was so-named by unanimous decision from the Executive Committee in recognition of Dorothy’s long, dedicated and untiring service to the organisation.

In consenting to lending her name to the new building, Dorothy did so as recognition of the many ladies who served alongside her.
